During the Great War, many brave soldiers on both sides of the conflict won medals. If they were lucky, the received the while they were still alive and the unlucky brave souls who received them did so posthumously.

World War 1 Books
Friday, June 4th, 2010World War 1 was a miserable time for those who fought on the battlefield. Not only did they have to deal with death and destruction of the war, but they also were hit with the 1918 Spanish flu which sickened well over a million soldiers.
